Proofreading
I most commonly proofread (and proof-edit) on screen, using Microsoft Word or Adobe PDF software. My rate varies according to the complexity of the text and the amount of work involved in marking up corrections, but my fee starts at £20–25 per 1000 words. I bill this way as I feel it’s fairer to the client than charging an hourly rate. Feel free to contact me for a quote – I’m happy to provide a sample proof of your first 1000 words at no charge, so that you can see what I can do for you and I can work out a fair price.
Proof-editing
As with proofreading, I usually edit on screen using Word or PDF, and my rate varies according to the complexity of the text and the amount of work involved in both marking up and applying the corrections for you. Again, I’m happy to provide a sample edit of 1000 words for you so that I can work out a fair and accurate price for you. Typically, my standard rate for proof-editing is between £25–35 per 1000 words.
Copy-editing
Copy-editing is typically much more in-depth than proofing – rather than just weeding out and correcting mistakes, I will also check for consistency of hyphenation, punctuation, tense, grammar, capitalisation, format, layout, style, font and pagination, and where required will also provide you with a style sheet for use in your future writing. As with my other editorial services, I would request a sample of your work to provide you with an accurate quote, so please contact me if you would like to consider me for this service. My standard rate is between £35–50 per 1000 words.
Transcription
I primarily specialise in medical transcription, having worked as a medical secretary for over twenty years in a variety of sectors, including neurology, radiology, cardiology, psychiatry, respiratory disease, surgery and anaesthesia, pain management, and urology, to name a few. However, I’m also experienced in other fields, including law and litigation, property, and even estate agency. I use NCH Express Scribe Professional software and charge per audio minute. My starting rate is £2 per minute of audio, though this does increase for complex transcription, multiple voices or poor quality audio. Please contact me for a quote and I’ll be pleased to assist you.
